Welcome to the ColoradoRailfan.com Project Page. On this page, you will find a list of rail projects that are currently going on, planned for the future, already completed, or rumored to happen sometime. Railroads are constantly working to upgrade their lines to maximize train efficiency. Stay informed for projects in Colorado and Utah.

Active Project List
Pecos Street Overpass (UP) - Raise Pecos Street at the north end of North Yard to run over the tracks leading into and out of North Yard and the Belt Line, as well as BNSF's Front Range Sub.
Second Main Track - C&S Junction to Arvada (UP) - A second mainline will be added parallel to the existing mainline between C&S Junction and Arvada (CP DS007) on the Moffat Tunnel Sub.

Long-Term Project List
Rehabilitation of CRIP Line / Sandown Junction (UP) - The old Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific line that runs between Belt Junction and currently ends 0.72 miles northwest of Sandown Junction will be rehabilitated and reconnected at Sandown, a second main track will be added parallel to the existing track, and a CTC will be installed.
Second Main Track - Broadway to Belt Junction (UP) - A second main track will be added between Broadway (DS 900) and Belt Junction on the Belt mainline in Denver.
Second Main Track - Sandown Junction to Watkins (UP) - A second main track will be added between Sandown Junction on the Limon Sub and Watkins, CO.
Second Main Track - Tabernash to Winter Park (UP) - A second main track will be added between Tabernash and Winter Park on the Moffat Tunnel Subdivsion.
Watkins Yard Project (UP) - A brand new classification yard, coal yard, and intermodal facility will be constructed in or near Watkins, CO, replacing the yards at 36th street.

Completed Project List
Belt Line Flyover / Utah Junction Bypass (UP) - Two new bypass tracks will be constructed that will run from C&S Junction to the Belt Main Line at Broadway. The new tracks will cross over the BNSF Front Range Subdivision on a grade separation.
Tolland Extension (UP) - The siding of Tolland on the Moffat Tunnel Subdivision will be extended to the east.
Wadsworth Parkway Underpass (BNSF) - Wadsworth Parkway will be lowered to run underneath the BNSF Golden Branch in Arvada.
Winter Park Grade Separation (UP) - Note that this is a correction from the previous belief that Winter Park was being extended to the east. The tracks will pass underneath a new underpass for Timber House Road Crossing near the west end of Winter Park.
Yarmony Extension (UP) - The siding of Yarmony on the Moffat Tunnel Subdivision will be extended to the west.

Rumored Project List
Crater Extension (UP) - Extending Crater to be capable of supporting most coal trains.
Crescent Extension (UP) - Extending Crescent, most likely to the west, to be capable of supporting most coal trains.
Second Main Track - Rollins to East Portal (UP) - A second mainline will be added parallel to the existing mainline between Rollins and East Portal on the Moffat Tunnel Sub.
Second Main Track - Tolland to East Portal (UP) - The sidings of Tolland and East Portal would be connected, creating either two main tracks, or an extremely long (3+ mile) siding on the Moffat Tunnel Sub.
Troublesome Extension (UP) - Extending Troublesome to be capable of supporting most coal trains.
