UP 7322 heads almost directly into the sun through a cut just east of Parshall, CO. If you look closely, you can see the back end of the train working its way along the base of the mountains in the distance.

The various angles in this picture make it extremely interesting. You can't see a horizon, but you can see lines of mountains and hills running at all different angles. When you look at the image one way, you'd swear it needed to be rotated to the right...but it is actually perfectly level!

A very late-running Amtrak 5 crosses over Elk Creek Road a few hundred feet east of the east switch of Fraser. It is amazing to think that four months ago, the ground was completely covered by snow right here!

After assisting a unit pipe train a couple dozen miles east at Clay, the MNYRO-16 now makes its way west through Winter Park. The train still had plenty of power to make it up the hill on the east side without any problems. Now, it is all down hill for quite some time to come!

It is getting late in the day as UP 7322 heads east past the west switch of Rollins. A bit of smoke is coming off the brake shoes of the coal load as the engineer works his magic, keeping the load under control down the hill.

A coal train bound for the Joint Line (and eventually Texas) meets a unit pipe train at Rollins. The pipe train is headed for Craig, CO where a new natural gas pipeline is under construction.
