At the west switch of Irondale, this BNSF manifest (with some power-shared UP power) has come to a stop. Here it will wait for at least one eastbound coal load.

This 32-car manifest is slowly rolling toward the east switch of Irondale on BNSF's Brush Sub. The train has a restricting signal heading in to the siding.

It is 6:30pm and the sun is getting very close to the mountains as this westbound coal load continues on its journey just west of Tonville. It is really nice when the DPUs on the tail end of the train are facing the "right way".

At the west switch of Tonville, this coal load is makes its way west in the rapidly fading sunlight. At Barr (the next siding to the west), the train will head in to the hole to wait for a Z-train to pass it and Amtrak to meet it. Busy night for the dispatcher on the Brush Sub.

BNSF hasn't replaced many signals on the Brush Sub yet, so most of the signals still have the single target. Such is the case here at west Roggen where a coal empty is headed into the siding.

Stopped on the siding at Roggen, this coal empty is still hanging out the west end of the siding. This is to avoid blocking the grade crossing at County Road 73 in town. Once the westbound the train is meeting (the Z-train from Chicago) is about 10 miles away, the dispatcher will instruct the train to pull in to the clear.

With a rapidly setting sun to the west, a coal empty is pulling in to the siding at Roggen about 45 miles east of Denver. Along with several other trains on the line, the empty will wait here for the westbound Z-train.

This westbound manifest is pulling in to the siding at Wiggins. Here, it will sit and wait for the westbound ZCHIDEN to overtake it. Unfortunately, it would then still have to wait for an eastbound in the siding at Crest, also waiting on the Z-train.

A shot of the tail end of the passenger cars on the Red Circus Train as it comes down the last part of the Brush Sub to enter BNSF's Yard. Looks like some of the performers are enjoying the summer afternoon.

The Circus Train is in town! Well...passing through town anyway. It is actually headed for Colorado Springs via the Joint Line. A pair of BNSF units brought the train across Nebraska and down the Brush Sub earlier in the day.

Always fun when you stumble across the highest-numbered unit on a railroads roster! BNSF 9999 leads this coal train south through Commerce City near the oil refinery.

Despite a very cloudy sky on this evening, there was a nice break in the clouds as the Hudson Turn heads west toward Denver. A nice shot to close out the day...

The Hudson Turn, carrying a string of tanks, heads back west toward Denver in between Barr and Irondale. The train will meet a Denver-Edgemont manifest that is waiting in the siding at Irondale. I had wanted to get some shots of the manifest from this overpass (as it was led by a trio of SD60M's), but alas I was unable to. The brakes on the fifth car back on the Hudson Turn are sticking! The train stopped to inspect just east of Irondale, blocking the Denver-Edgemont. By the time the Hudson Turn moved out of the way, the manifest was held for a Z-Train and the sun set with it sitting at Irondale.

Even though the lighting is horrible here, I included the shot because I was intrigued by the nose of this SD60M. For whatever reason, the white face is gone and instead it is a green face!
