With the rather dull lighting of the day, black and white seemed appropriate for this shot. But it also seemed a shame to lose the bright orange of the GP60M. So I decided to compromise! A line of cars headed south on US-287 wait at a red traffic signal while the Longmont Switch slowly makes its way through the "intersection".

Steve, to answer your question, it is all done within the wonderful world of PhotoShop! Basically outline the train, invert (so the rest of the picture is selected), and change the selection to black and white.
