There was a time when a quartet of SD40-2s could be found leading the highest priority trains on the railroad. In 2011, you can find them running on locals. But, then again, at least you can still find them in 2011!

Oh, yes, I remember the quartets of SD40-2's as a daily occurance while attending Louisville Middle School. I used to be able to predict the length of train by the number of engines (about 20-25 cars per engine) with reasonable accuracy. Now I'm spoiled by Dash 9's (gasp -- GE's!) with air conditioning, and hear complaints if we don't have a widebody!  
I also remember lamenting the replacement of CB&Q's Chinese Red by the BN green.
