About 25 miles west of Glenwood Springs, the Zephyr is approaching the east switch of Rifle. Once upon a time, the Rio Grande Zephyr stopped at Rifle. When the Rio Grande Zephyr retired in April 1983 and Amtrak ran the California Zephyr through here, Amtrak's California Zephyr initially stopped at Rifle as well. However, just six months later, in October 1983, Amtrak removed Rifle as a station stop.
