Major Derailment on the Front Range Sub
News Story Posted By Kevin (Click Name To Email)
Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - Around 10:30pm last night, the Longmont Turn was returning from Denver to Longmont. Just past the American Furniture Warehouse (formerly Homestead House) near MP 10.5 on the Front Range Sub, the Turn struck a tree stump in the middle of the tracks.

It is believed right now that the stump was placed there deliberated, presumably as a practical joke. The train was probably going near track speed, about 40 MPH. I don't think that anybody on the unit was injured.

The lead unit was a Cascade Green SD60M. Amazingly, the SD60M did not fall on its side even though the next three units did. BNSF is working hard to get the mess cleaned up. The right lane is closed on northbound Wadsworth while the mess is being clean up.

Here are 17 pictures of the derailment from this morning and this afternoon.
