Pipe train #8
News Story Posted By Tyler (Click Name To Email)
Friday, July 28, 2006 - Early morning 7/27/06, UP moved the 8th pipe train through Bond and up the Craig branch to Empire. The majority of these trains have been moving at night on this end. The 8th train was a suprise as I had heard from a few sources that the total would be 7. Who knows there could be more.

Pipe originates from Berg Steel Pipe, Panama City, FL. CSX runs the
trains to East St. Louis, IL and interchanges them to UP, UP runs the
trains to Empire siding near Craig, CO. The pipe is unloaded and then
trucked north of Craig. The empty trains return the same way.

2 70M's pulled the train across the KP to Denver. At North Yard UP
7130 was added to the point, SP 335 was dp'd. After 2 trains stalled
climbing the front range, Denver finally got serious about adding
power for the trip west. Pipe on train 8 was stamped with dates around
7/10/06.

Interesting to note UP 7130 was the unit that pulled the ballast train
over the Tennessee Pass line to west Minturn last month.

UP 7130 highballed Yarmony just before sunrise around 0630. Train was
recrewed below Crater, CO around 0830. DP seemed to make a noticable
difference in the trains speed climbing to Toponas.

3 westbound trains were being held at Dotsero, Allen, and Grizzly due to a truck vs. train collision west of New Castle. An M RONY and an eastbound coal load were being held at Bond for the day account the all day work window around Granby.
