The Crossover Of
Castilla
West to Springville |
The Siding Gallery, by design, does not show any trains (unless it is unavoidable) in pictures of the sidings. This is so you can see the layout of the land and get your own ideas on how to take pictures of trains. However, if you'd like to see pictures taken from various spots at this siding, then you can Search the Photo Gallery for pictures here on ColoradoRailfan.com!
The Crossover of Castilla is located at milepost 684.7 on the Provo Subdivision. The Castilla crossover was constructed after the mudslide at Thistle occurred. At thetime, there was a crossover at Thistle that trains could use to cross from track two totrack one (when heading west). However, after the grade realignment, a new crossover hadto be installed. Castilla is 3.7 miles west of where Thistle is, or rather was. TheThistle crossover had been located at milepost 681.0.

In the distance, notice the deep fire red color on the mountain. This is part of a cutconstructed so that US Hwy 6 could also bypass the mudslide at Thistle. It is just belowthis cut where the new railroad grade is located.
Picture 2
The control box at Castilla can be found just to the side of US Hwy 6.
Picture 3
A shot of Castilla looking through the crossover, eastbound. Unfortunately, it justwasn't feasible to get a picture looking westbound.
