The Crossover Of
Narrows

West to Rio

Siding Gallery Homepage

East to Gilluly

The Siding Gallery, by design, does not show any trains (unless it is unavoidable) in pictures of the sidings. This is so you can see the layout of the land and get your own ideas on how to take pictures of trains. However, if you'd like to see pictures taken from various spots at this siding, then you can Search the Photo Gallery for pictures here on ColoradoRailfan.com!

The Crossover of Narrows is located at milepost 672.3 on the ProvoSubdivision. Narrows is right off of US Hwy 6, east of Gilluly and Detour. Thecrossover runs from track two to track one when heading westbound, meaning thiscrossover follows the right-hand rule. That is to say that, a train that runsthrough crossover must have previously been on the "wrong" track. After runningthrough the crossover, they will be on the "correct" track.

Here is the control box for the Narrows Crossover. To save on space, crossovers are frequently referred to simply as "X-Over".

Picture 2
Narrows is 11 miles west of Gilluly, and significantly lower in elevation. This pictures looks west toward Gilluly.

This shot looks through the crossover itself...

Picture 4
This stretch of track is fairly straight. There are not too many extremelysignificant curves on this side of Soldier Summit. That is why Amtrak can go55 MPH through here as apposed to the 30 MPH over near Kyune.

Picture 5
It is late in the day, so there is a little solar flare when looking to thewest, but you can still see the valley coming up. This is the valley in whichThistle, UT now lays buried in mud after the major mudslide of 1983.
