Paint Scheme Colors are a mix of reds found on the paint scheme that predated the "pickle and mustard" scheme. However, the two tone red creates stripes in the spirit of the "pickle and mustard" scheme moving back along the long hood. "The Katy" herald is found on the long hood and a star is on the nose.
Typical Route for Unit Unit currently tends to stay on former Katy routes between Houston and Chicago.

12/2/2006 - UP 1988 is paired with UP 2002 (Olympic Unit) on the MPRCB-02, departing Proviso, IL bound for Council Bluffs, IA.
12/1/2006 - After one round trip between Yard Center, IL and Houston, TX, UP 1988 is moved from Yard Center back over to Proviso to await assignment.
11/25/2006 - After spending Thanksgiving in the Provisio, IL area, UP 1988 once again departs on the IYCHO-25, perhaps in captive service.
11/21/2006 - UP 1988 departs North Little Rock, AR bound for Yard Center, IL.
11/18/2006 - After arriving in Miller, TX, UP 1988 is placed on a train bound for North Little Rock, AR.

9/20/2006 - UP 1988 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1982 (MoPac) arrive at Union Station in Kansas City for display over the weekend with UP 6936 and UP 844 for a celebration of Railroad Heritage.

5/5/2006 - The problem UP 1988 had been having appear to be resolved. The unit was second again behind UP 2408 on the MKCTR-05.

5/3/2006 - UP 1988 is at North Little Rock on Ramp #2 for repairs including the replacement of the #3 traction motor.
5/1/2006 - UP 1988 is returned to North Little Rock, AR for repairs to problems found when it led the QNLNP-28 last week.
4/30/2006 - The QNLNP-28, led by UP 1988, was continually going into emergency and the problem was narrowed down UP 1988. It was set out on the Maumelle Industrial Lead.
4/28/2006 - After spending a few weeks in the North Little Rock, AR area, the unit leads the QNLNP-28 from North Little Rock to North Platte, NE.
4/10/2006 - UP 1988 is moved to North Little Rock, AR to replace the #4 traction motor and alternator.
4/9/2006 - While running on the IHOYC-08, UP 1988 is set out in Hoxie, AR due to a smoking #4 traction motor. UP 1982 (MoPac) continued on the IHOYC-08.
3/28/2006 - UP 1988 turns around in Houston, TX and runs with sister Heritage Unit UP 1982 (MoPac) back to Yard Center, IL.
3/26/2006 - UP 1988 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1982 (MoPac), appear to be on regular runs between Yard Center, IL and Houston, TX right now, as it left Dolton, IL on the IHOYC-26.
3/23/2006 - After a few days in the Chicago area, UP 1988 is placed on the ZYCHO (Yard Center, IL to Houston, TX).
3/19/2006 - UP 1988 arrives at Proviso, IL and is placed at the Global 2 facility.

10/19/2005 - UP 1988 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1982 (MoPac) returns to Wichita, KS on the SERWT-19.
10/16/2005 - UP 1988 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1982 (MoPac) are placed on an Operation Lifesaver Special (SKCOK-16) from Kansas City, MO to Oklahoma City, OK.

10/3/2005 - UP 1988 is back on former Katy rails running regularly on trains such as the MMUFW (Muskogee, OK to Fort Worth, TX) and the MFWWT (Fort Worth, TX to Wichita, KS).
10/1/2005 - UP 1988 leads the MCBKC-30 out of Council Bluffs for Kansas City, MO to get it back on "home" rails.
9/28/2005 - After spending less than 24 hours in Denver, UP 1988 leads the MDVNP-28 out of Denver north on the Greeley Sub headed for North Platte, NE.
9/27/2005 - In a rare move removing the Katy unit from its "home" rails, it leads the MSIDV heading for Denver, CO on the Limon Subdivision.
9/24/2005 - UP 1988 moves towards Salina, KS as the lead unit on the MKSSI-24.
9/22/2005 - After several weeks on the MFWKC/MKCFW, UP 1988 is on the point of the MFWNL and is headed for North Little Rock, AR.
8/31/2005 - UP 1988 is the trailing unit on the MFWKC headed for Kansas City, MO. UP 4701 leads the train.
8/29/2005 - UP 1988 leads the MMQFW (Mesquite, TX to Fort Worth, TX manifest). Starting now, the unit should stick to former Katy rails.
8/24/2005 - UP 1988 departed Yard Center on the MYCAS and was headed south in central Illinois in the afternoon.
8/23/2005 - UP 1988 departs Proviso, IL on the YPRYC (Yard Transfer) to Yard Center near Dolton, IL. Unit was setup for photo shoots with UP photographers. Unit is scheduled to lead the ZYCMQ4 on 8/25, leading on the point for Mesquite, TX.
8/19/2005 - UP 1988 is interchanged back to UP at Granville, WI at noon. Unit was tied up at Butler diesel shop around 2:30pm. Scheduled to move south on the MSSPR tonight, arriving in Proviso, IL around sunrise.
8/17/2005 - The Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy) Heritage Unit is unveiled in Horicon, WI.
7/31/2005 - In a press release, Union Pacific announces that they will include a Katy unit in their Heritage Series.
7/30/2005 - A T-Shirt sporting what is believed to be the scheme for the Katy unit is shown on Trainorders. (link)
7/26/2005 - UP 8388 departs Cheyenne, WY on the ACYRO2, headed for Roper, UT (in primer gray).
Note: Red Text in the status above indicates the unit is significantly away from its heritage railroads "home" rails.

Unit Photos
Just more than a month after being released from the paint shop in Horicon, WI, the Katy Heritage Unit came to Denver on the KP Line. It was in town the morning of September 27, 2005 and left soon afterward.
