With partly cloudy skies, the wind was blowing the clouds in and out the area very quickly. Here, just as a cloud catches up, UP 4014 and train head east on Main 2. However, on the return trip east, a lot of passenger cars were removed, along with UP 1616 and UP 1776 and they were sent to Council Bluffs, IA in preparation of the eastern tour. After departing Rawlins, WY about 15 minutes earlier, the train is crossing the North Platte river at Fort Steele on Main 2, making its way east toward its home in Cheyenne. Five miles east of here, at Walcott, the train crossed over from Main 1 to Main 2. There also happens to be a 10 MPH slow order across the bridge, so the train is move slow through the scene. This view of the 4-8-8-4 leading a special west of Hanna helps show its overall size. Including the tender, the unit is 132 feet long. The Big Boy and tender combine weight right around 1.2 million pounds (600 tons). The tender holds close to 25,000 gallons of water and consumes as much as 12,000 gallons of water per hour.
