Between Walsenburg and Southern Junction, there are two main tracks. The coal empty is on Main 2 which is owned and dispatched by BNSF. Main 1 on the left is used for the occasional southbound traffic to Walsenburg and is dispatched by Union Pacific.

These tracks were once owned by Rio Grande before the Espee (and UP) came along. The tracks lead over Le Veta Pass to Alamosa (and beyond). UP recently sold the line to the San Luis and Rio Grande railroad. UP now interchanges with the SLRG right here in Walsenburg.

In Walsenburg, ABS signaling ends when traveling north toward Pueblo. Here, a dwarf signal marks the start of ABS when heading south. The C&S (BNSF) mainline is on the left and the Rio Grande (UP) mainline is on the right.
