From around 1996 until 2005 or so, BNSF's SD70MACs reigned on coal train. Over the next decade, as ES44ACs and SD70ACes started to come on the scene, the SD70MAC presence started decreasing. Today, SD70MACs have almost completely disappeared. Most are in long term storage, and many have met the torch and been scrapped. Over the course of the two days I spent in the Powder River Basin, BNSF 8908 here was the only SD70MAC that I saw.

The five staging tracks at Antelope Mine are currently all filled up with trains. Three trains are empty and waiting to be loaded. One train has already loaded and is waiting for a crew to take it east. One line of cars - the second from the right - is a string of empty hoppers currently being stored as there is no demand for them right now. The empty set with the sole SD70ACe for power is currently move away from the camera at 2 MPH, getting ready to load.
