UP's Big Boy rounds the curve at Cedar Point along the 5,000 stub-end siding. Once upon a time, there was actually a wye here at Cedar Point. I don't know the exactly history, but I assume helpers might have once cut off here at Cedar Point after helping up the grade. Feel free to comment if you know the history!

UP 4014 slowly rounds the curve at Cedar Point, about 12 miles west of Limon. The siding of Cedar Point is just under 5,000 feet long, and is now a single ended track. The east switch has been completely removed, and it is now a 5,000 foot stub track, with access available only at the west end.

UP 4014 climbs the (roughly) 1.3% grade west here at Cedar Point. This is one of the steepest climbs along the Limon Subdivision, and UP 4014 is letting a bit of smoke loose in response to the increased grade.

UP 7264 and train cross over County Road 134 in rural Elbert County, about 75 miles east of Denver. The train is going to meet a rare daylight manifest at Limon. Alas, I was unable to get a shot of the meet as I had to head home. UP recently started running a once-weekly manifest between Sharon Springs, KS and Denver, CO, after nearly a decade of no regular manifests running on the line.

This oil train came off the Moffat this morning, and actually went into emergency at Rocky, temporarily blocking the west switch and delaying the westbound Rocky Mountaineer. About seven hours later, the DPUs have been removed and the train is now making its way across the eastern plains of Colorado between Agate and Limon.

As of this photo, UP's Limon Subdivision was operated with track warrants and isolated sections of ABS at the longer sidings. The shorter sidings - such as Cedar Point, seen here - are operated by hand throw switches and see use very infrequently.
