The BNSF Front Range Sub is washed out and covered in thick mud here in Longmont where flood water destroyed a lot. You can see the trailer in the distance, fallen at an angle after the ground beneath partially washed away.

A look at a stretch of track where the ties are merely dangling from the bottoms of the rails.

A stretch of tracks probably a quarter of a mile long got rocked by flood waters in Longmont. The track was either completely washed out, or stuck and twisted within thick mud.

BNSF is totally prepared for the task of getting the tracks ready for trains once again. Here, a tamper sits on the rails, ready to work on the ballast and verify the gauge of the track.

The recent flooding wreaked havoc not only on the tracks, but on wayside equipment too, such as crossing signals. Here, a pair of BNSF workers (or, perhaps, contractors) wait to cross US-287 after working on the electronics in the crossing signal.

An interesting mix of power, not the least of which is a badly faded Warbonnet, sits near the depot in Longmont.

A trio of SD40-2s sit quietly on the west end of the Great Western transfer track in Longmont. Due to the flooding and track damage, these guys likely will be sitting for at least the next few days.

A pair of SD40-2s are the current power on the Longmont Turn. Although both units wear the Heritage paint scheme, it is interesting how drastically different the tone of the paint is!

At Longmont, this southbound manifest is slowly making its way through the street course known as Longmont! Over a 5 1/2 mile section of track, trains have to blow their horn through 17 grade crossing (including the run down Atwood Street). Here, the train is running parallel to 1st Avenue, about to pass underneath the Terry Street overpass.

After about 45 minutes of work, the crew was able to re-rail this SD40-2. After running through a derail, the lead axle derailed and the crew worked diligently to get it re-railed.

A crew is in the process of re-railing the first axle on this SD40-2. They are using a re-railer to get the axle back "on track" - pardon the pun.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you run through a derail? Take a close look at the first axle on this SD40-2. Good to know the derail works just as it should.

A rails-eye view of the BNSF 7812. From this view, there is nothing really to indicate that the unit has even been patched! This is one of two units used on the Longmont Turn. The orange box above the plow is a FRED unit used on the local.

Power for the Longmont Switch idles away in the distance to the left while power for the Longmont Turn idles on the stub track in the foreground. Looks like some interesting, ummm, patchwork (?) on the number boards!

From what I've read, this was the very last Burlington Northern unit ever painted in cascade green! Apparently it was actually painted shortly after the BNSF merger. It was at the shops waiting to be painted (with a work order for this scheme) as the merger went through. It was one of two SD40-2's serving as power on the Longmont Turn.
