After meeting a westbound grain train at Hillrose, this coal empty heads toward Union, CO where it will receive a track warrant and continue on Union Pacific track to Sterling. There, it will turn north on the BNSF Angora Sub into Nebraska toward the Powder River Basin in Wyoming.

There is an explosion of light from behind the clouds along the western horizon as the sun gets closer to setting. In the foreground, a coal empty proceeds east out of the siding at Hillrose.

Less than twenty minutes before sunset, the sun has come out from behind the clouds and an eastbound coal empty throttles up to leave the siding of North Hillrose to continue on to Sterling. The grain train it just met sits on the main, a pair of C44-9Ws are DPU'd on the end.

At the east switch of Hillrose, a westbound unit grain train proceeds on a yellow signal. The "earth worm" (as these unit grain trains are often referred to) is will stop on the main at Hillrose to meet two eastbounds. One eastbound is a coal empty on the siding and the second is an empty just south of the siding, holding the main.
