At the south edge of Louisville, 96th Street crosses over the Front Range Sub. This is a relatively new overpass, constructed to eliminate the need for cars to cross the tracks at a grade crossing. Here, the Longmont Turn is on the move with a GP39V on the point. The GP39V was rebuilt by VMV Paducahbilt from a GP35.

A few miles north of Broomfield, the Longmont Turn passes a few old trees as it approaches the Northwest Parkway overpass. The train is working on climbing the 1.63% ruling grade up Burkes Hill in between Broomfield and Boulder.

After picking up the empty hoppers from the siding at Boulder and the siding at Stazio, the southbound Valmont coal empty passes through Louisville and is about to pass underneath 95th Street. Longs Peak stands tall in the background, above the lead unit.

Just coming out from underneath the 96th Street Overpass, A single C44-9W brings up the tail end of the BWWCHE-28 as it moves slowly north through downtown Louisville. This is just about the only northbound that sees DPU on the Front Range Sub.

I'm not sure exactly when the lease will expire on the Oakways SD60s that are on BNSF's roster, but I would expect them to disappear in the next few years. The "Oakways" came onto BN's property in 1987, numbered as EMD 9000 to EMD 9099. Today, all things considered, their paint still looks pretty darn good! Take, for example, EMDX 9050 here on the BWWCHE-28.

On the approach to Louisville, there is some colorful power on the BWWCHE-28. The train is led by an H2 SD70MAC, followed by an Oakway SD60, and a warbonnet C44-9W.

BNSF 8230 has just conquered the rather steep (albeit short) 2% grade in between Broomfield and Superior. The train will now descend down a 1.5% to 1.65% grade through Boulder and into Longmont.

With a long and heavy train, three classic EMDs (two SD40-2's and an F45XR) work hard to pull and long and heavy HDENLAU north toward Louisville.
