As you can see, the train broke in to two. The conductor walked back and set the brakes on 30 cars before walking the rest of the train. Meanwhile, the engineer had to isolate the rear DPU. When the conductor walked back up, the train was put back together and the brakes were knocked off. Then, the engineer brought the rear DPU online and recharged the brakes. The entire process took several hours. There was an 8,000-foot MSIDV out of Limon, but it made a reverse move to Limon as the crew only had 90 minutes to work and the coal train had the line blocked.
