Tired skiers do not have too much longer to wait before they are back at Union Station. This season, Lyft was a sponsor of the train, and three of the Superliners received this fancy pink/purple wrap to advertise Lyft.

Thanks to the lengthening of the days and the switch to Daylight Savings Time, there is now plenty of sunlight for the eastbound Winter Park Express as it glides east on the main at Tolland.

The "pink sticker cars" (as a friend's daughter refers to them) are on the east end of the Winter Park Express as it heads west on the main at Plain.

The Winter Park Express heads west on the main at Eisele. Unfortunately, the Bloody Nose heritage unit had to return to Chicago for a mechanical inspection. So two standard Phase Vb P42DCs are on the train. But the "pink sticker cars" are still there!

The two P42DCs that have been used on the Winter Park Express thus far in the season (AMTK 156 "Bloody Nose" and AMTK 193) were both due to their 92-day mechanical inspections and had to return to Chicago. A pair of relief P42s were sent in to power the Ski Train by the Amtrak power desk!

The Winter Park Express makes its third and final Friday trip for the 2018 ski season. This year, it ran on the first Friday in January, February, and March. The Denver skyline stands tall in the distance. You might also note the Arvada water tower just below the skyline.

As the days gets longer, the sun has been rising earlier, allowing for more light for shots like this one at Leyden. However, in two weeks when Daylight Savings Time starts, this scene will look much different. For now, the Winter Park Express kicks up snow at Leyden as the Denver skyline stands tall in the distance.

The westbound Winter Park Express has AMTK 193 on point this morning as the train knocks down a clear signal at Leyden. AMTK 156 (the Bloody Nose P42DC) will lead the train for the trip back to Denver in the evening.

A light dusting of snow lay all over the ground across Denver-Metro area. Passengers on the Winter Park Express are probably very happy to be inside the warm Superliners rather than outside in the 15°F weather!

The Winter Park Express just crossed over Kipling Street as it makes its way west on a very gloomy (and chilly) Sunday morning. The temperature outside is only 17°F. With the wind taken into consideration, it only feels to be about 9°F out. Still, any time is a good time for the new Ski Train.

I include this shot of the Winter Park Express mainly to point out something interesting...note that the signal to the left of the train is showing a yellow aspect. You may ask how this is possible since the train is in the block beyond the signal! Before answer the question, also note the "R" on the milepost plate of the signal. The milepost reads as "565R". That "R" indicates this signal is a "Repeater". Not only does the signal not give any indication of the track here, it does not even give any permission to approaching trains. It simply repeats the condition of the signal at East Winter Park. This is done so westbound trains emerging from the Moffat Tunnel can know what to expect at the signal at East Winter Park. In this case, the signal is yellow because the Winter Park Express will make a reverse move behind the signal at East Winter Park. The train had to flag past the east switch because the Zephyr is still in the Moffat Tunnel at this point. The train will back up so it can get a clear signal through the tunnel.

This is just about the perfect scene for Winter Park and the Winter Park Express (Ski Train)! The snowing is coming down as passengers, no doubt tired from a good day on the slopes, board the train for the trip back to Denver. Meanwhile, I'm going to be stuck in the car, driving in the oncoming storm over Berthoud Pass.
