While the platform above allows mechanics easy access to the top half of the locomotives, here we see how access is made easy to the trucks and lower half of the locomotive. The rails in the east side of the shop are literally on stilts. This way, the trucks and lower components on the locomotive are at eye level for mechanics performing work.
