Does this paint scheme look a little bit familiar? I'm guessing yes! Florida East Coast acquired 16 SD40-2's from Union Pacific. They took "Union Pacific" off the long hood and the shield off the nose and replaced them with "Florida East Coast" and their logo, respectively. Here, one such SD40-2 is being moved around by hostelers in Bowden Yard.

They actually acquired 22. 701 thru 720 got regular Florida East Coast and 721 & 722 were painted up and got FEC by the numbers, and shipped off to NECR. They tried out numerous engines and settled on the 20 best.
As to the flag, they all have them, as do the SD70M-2s and GP40, -2 -3 s that got repainted in the current scheme.

They're on all of FEC's locomotives.

Any idea if the US flag is an FEC thing or just a patriotic employee? I mean, does FEC do this on other locos?
