A look at the west switch of Plain (and tunnels 2, 3 and 4) from the siding. I took this shot out the windows of a Sightseer Lounge on the westbound California Zephyr! We are in the siding to meet this MRONY.

Somewhere, back in my foggy childhood memories, I can remember my great-uncle Clifford telling me how he had climbed up the side of the Flat Irons with his Colorado School of Mines buddies to demolish some hazardous rocks that could come down and kill someone sometime. He told me about scaling these mountains and not fearing falling hundreds or thousands of feet, but fearing his slipping just a few feet with that volatile dynamite in his pack!

Definitely not a good way to go, career-wise and he got out of it in time.

I have my own shot from the same angle, from the last run of the RGZ. I hope I can find it.
