Looking west from the US-24 overpass about two miles east of Minturn, the fall colors are looking mighty fine along the Tennessee Pass mainline. Sure would like to catch an eastbound starting its climb toward the 3% grade here.

An interesting thought indeed Steve. However, in the end, it is of course a business decision by UP. And, considering the economics, not one I can disagree with. At least according to the business man on my left shoulder. The railfan on the right shoulder is screaming about the injustice of it all. Heh.

Thanks, as always for the kind words. It was a lot of fun taking pictures, even with no trains to be found.

I wonder how much money the Arkansas and Eagle River Valleys have missed in the last 15 years from salaried employees, like engineers, brakemen, switching crews, yard crews, and the like. I wonder how much money they miss each September when the railfans would go "one more year" up to Minturn or Leadville to get shots like this with a big lashup pulling for all their worth with the helpers around the bend. Indeed, we are ALL the poorer for the continued dormancy of Tennessee Pass.

Here's hoping that HOTR can make lemonade out of Uncle Petey's lemons.

Lest I end on a literally sour note, Kevin, your shot is beautiful and poignant. It embodies everything about TP today.
