A couple times a year, I like to grab a shot of the engine tracks near BNSF's engine house in Denver, just to see how things change over time. newer GE power dominates the scene on this chilly November afternoon.

Those are actually radio blades (they are long and skinny). They do look a lot like strobes directly from the front. They are radios used for PTC (Positive Train Control). Expect to see those appearing on more and more units in the future as PTC gets close to coming online everywhere.
