Sitting a few hundred feet away from each other, the Royal Gorge Route's pair of F7As sit idle in the yard in Canon City. It is pretty cool that the Royal Gorge Route decided to honor Rio Grande by painting the F-units in a replica of the "one stripe" scheme that Rio Grande units wore decades ago.

The color was more yellow (known as "Aspen Gold") up until the 1980s. When Phil Anschutz bought the railroad, the color changed to "Kansas City Orange". Not entirely sure why the color was changed. The latter was applied to the GP40s purchased from Conrail in the 1980s.
The F-units only had the Aspen Gold, so the Royal Gorge Route's are a bit too orange to be prototypical.
Still, as you said, they look very good!

Awesome paint scheme. I can never figure the Rio Grande out. One time the color is orange, another it is more yellow. What is the reason for that.
