The traction motors that power the wheels are electric motors (which is why train engines are referred to as "diesel-electric"). Because they are electric, there are no gears, which means the engine can operate the same regardless of whether it is moving forward or backward. Thus, it doesn't matter which way DPU units are facing. On this morning, the last unit was facing forward, showing its long hood to the world!
