It isn't too common to find both mid-train and trailing DPUs setup on a manifest on the Moffat. But when you consider that each covered hopper you see in this shot is filled with sand and weighs around 110 tons each, the reason becomes fairly clear. Because those covered hoppers are only 40 feet long, the overall train is just over 4,000 feet in length despite weighing over 12,000 tons.
