Oil trains have become something of a replacement to the coal trains that ran over the rails for decades. The volume of oil trains is still nowhere near what the volume of coal trains once were. Between BNSF and UP, there is an oil train once every few days lately. Conversely, there's only been a coal train once every one or two months. Here, a UP oil train makes its way east on the main at Rocky.
