While both the Mountaineer and the Zephyr load at Union Station, the two trains take very different routes initially out of Denver. The Zephyr uses the BNSF Buck Lead out of Union Station, running to Prospect Jct and the Moffat alongside North Yard. The Rocky Mountaineer has now contract with BNSF, so the RM has to run northeast through UP's 36th Street Yard and across the Belt to the Moffat. Here, RMRX 8020 leads the train on Bypass 2 at Pecos, having completed the run across the Belt.
