Due to their mechanical complexity, higher price points, and higher operating costs, not a lot of Tier-4 compliant units have been delivered to United States railroads. Less than 1,000 Tier-4 unit have been delivered in total the near-decade they've been available. BNSF has received the most, with 361 total units. Here, a pair of ES44ACs bring up the rear of a westbound coal empty taking the siding at Texas.
