A southbound coal load approaches on Main 1 as a manifest sits at a red intermediate signal on Main 2. In the next block, a crew is untying a train that will proceed north. Then, this manifest will get an approach (yellow) at this signal and pull up to Englewood and tie the train down. The signal on Main 3 is also red due to a coal empty tied down ahead. In the eight mile stretch of three main tracks between South Denver and Littleton, it is not uncommon to find trains tied down on Mains 2 and 3, waiting for recrews. However, you'll never see this on Main 1. Partly because at least one main must be kept open. But, more specifically, because Main 1 is owned by Union Pacific, whereas Mains 2 and 3 are owned by BNSF.
