Friday, July 29, 2005 - Get ready for a big surprise this weekend! Union Pacific is holding a history and heritage celebration in Omaha for all UP employees. On display will be UP 844, the 4-8-4 steam engine that was used on Cheyenne Frontier Days last weekend. In addition, UP will have two new SD70ACe's each in a very unique paint scheme. Although no official word has been released, it sounds as though one unit will be wearing a Missouri Pacific scheme and the other will be wearing a Western Pacific scheme! It has been confirmed that the number of these two units will be UP 1982 and UP 1983, which was the years of the UP-WP-MP merger. Other number slots open on UP's roster: UP 1988, UP 1995, and UP 1996. 1998 was the year of the MKT merger, 1995 the CNW merger, and of course 1996 was the SP merger.
