Monday, August 1, 2005 - It is official! Union Pacific is indeed celebrating its heritage by creating six units with elements of prior railroads. UP 1982 and UP 1983 were introduced over the weekend in Omaha. UP 1982 wears a scheme honoring Missouri Pacific and UP 1983 wears a scheme honoring Western Pacific. See UP's press release on their website here. As you can see in the press release, there will be a Rio Grande-inspired scheme!
My dad and I made it to the west side of the divide last Saturday for a mini excursion. It was a good day, as we chased a few trains from Tabernash to Bond. See some pictures from the day by clicking this link.
In other news, the last active Rio Grande unit in the 30xx series has been patched. As of Sunday, July 31, DRGW 3097 was showing up in the UP computers as UP 1352. The unit should be released from Burnham soon to be returned to service.
