Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - It has been a good two weeks for UP 1989 (Search Photo Gallery)! It finally made it west on the Moffat (you can see some pictures from the trip west) making it all the way to Grand Junction. It made two round trips on coal trains between Grand Junction and the mines on the North Fork branch. If came back to Denver on the point of the MRONY, and then went north to Milliken, CO for "Milliken Days" as a part of an Operation Lifesaver Special.
However, all good things must come to an end! As of Tuesday evening, July 18, UP 1989 (Search Photo Gallery) was back in captive service on the Joint Line. The Rio Grande Heritage unit was in the consist of the MNYPU-18, departing North Yard shortly after 11pm. Until UP decides to give it another assignment, it will probably run between Denver and Pueblo again, departing either terminal sometime after 10pm and arriving at its destination before dawn.
