Ski Train Power Car Possibly Sold
News Story Posted By Kevin (Click Name To Email)
Thursday, September 21, 2006 - The power car used for so many years, once named the Moffat Tunnel, may have been sold and is definitely leaving Denver. For the past nine years, since the arrival of Amtrak F40PH's - equipped with HEP - on the Ski Train in 1999, the power car has not been needed and has been stored in Burnham.

This morning, the car was spotted being switched around in North Yard (from track 9 to track 3). It is speculated that the car will be departing Denver today on the MNYNP (North Yard to North Platte). If this is the case, look for the car to depart North Yard sometime between noon and 3pm north on the Greeley Sub.

If the car has been sold, hopefully it is going somewhere where it can be preserved for the ages. Another piece of Rio Grande history slips away just a month after the Silver Bronco left Denver, also on the MNYNP.
