Monday, October 23, 2006 - Well, it finally happened! The Rio Grande Heritage Unit was sent west across the entire Rio Grande system (between Denver and Salt Lake). UP 1989 (Search Photo Gallery) was third in the consist on the MNYRO-21 which left North Yard around 6am yesterday morning.
In Grand Junction, the unit was wyed (and all but one other unit in the consist was removed) and UP 1989 (Search Photo Gallery) led across the Utah desert and over Soldier Summit. Unfortunately, I did not find out about this move until today after the unit was in Helper, so I don't have any pictures at this point. I'll provide links to pictures elsewhere as they come up. However, what goes west, should come east, and I'll be on the lookout for the return trip! If it leave on the MRONY-23 tomorrow, I'd expect to see it on the Front Range Tuesday morning...
