Saturday, November 18, 2006 - Okay, so it appears that the proverbial gun was jumped when it was reported that 5371 would be departing Utah for North Platte. As it turns out, Roper is indeed capable of performing a triennial inspection. 5371 was placed at the shops in Roper at 5:18am on Friday, November 17, 2006. It has been reported on Trainorders.com that 5371 will not be able to survive again without getting patched.
So, while 5371 will be staying in Utah, it is still expected that it will roll out from the shop as UP 8627 when it comes out of the shops in a few days. However, it does appear that the newly patched UP 8627 will return to Helper to continue on Dirt Train service. Time (and not much of it) will tell!
