Watkins Yard Project Project
Summary Information
Railroad Union Pacific
Overview A brand new classification yard, coal yard, and intermodal facility will be constructed in or near Watkins, CO, replacing the yards at 36th street.
Purpose A new yard constructed outside of the city limits of Denver would greatly reduce the taxes Union Pacific must pay. In addition, the yard would not be confined by existing structures. A new intermodal facility (for trains on the Greeley Sub) and a new coal yard (for trains on the Moffat Sub) would increase train productivity.
