It takes many years...even decades...to replace all the old CTC signals across a railroad the size of Union Pacific. Indeed, many of the signals along the Glidden Sub in southern Texas have not been replaced. They are still the class SP tri-light signals that were used when the Scarlet and Gray came through here on the Sunset Route.
