The only DPU on this northbound manifest is facing the "wrong way" (for photography, that is) as it throttles up to help the train make it over the climb up Burke's Hill.

Somehwere at every grade crossing in the United States, you should be able to fine a sign indicating the 800 number to call in the event of an emergency. You can also find a unique ID for the grade crossing as well. Such is the case here at Griffith Street in Louisville, CO.

Looks like this Warbonnet has been the victim of a bit of radiator burn! GE engines have, in the past, been referred to as toasters. And this is an example of why that is sometimes the case!

After a day of overcast skies and generally lousy lighting, the best shot of the day turned out to be the last shot of the day. The sun finally broke through the clouds to offer up some excellent light of this southbound BNSF ballast train as it comes through Louisville. The train is headed for Broomfield where it will dump ballast on the new siding extension at the north end.

BNSF's daily northbound manifest between Denver, CO and Laurel, MT heads into the town of Louisville about 20 miles north of Denver. A UP unit lends a hand on the train, paying back some leasing time.

The previous day, this consist was supposed to run south from Cheyenne to Denver. However, for reasons unknown, it was pulled off its train and stayed the night in Cheyenne. It then made a run down the Front Range Sub in fantastic afternoon light on this day instead! Here, the train is approaching the 96th Street bridge on the south edge of Louisville.

Just south of Louisville, this blade train is on the move with a warrant all the way in to Denver. Looks like the lead unit has undergone some repair work as most of the long hood on the right side is still in primer.

At the south edge of Louisville, 96th Street crosses over the Front Range Sub. This is a relatively new overpass, constructed to eliminate the need for cars to cross the tracks at a grade crossing. Here, the Longmont Turn is on the move with a GP39V on the point. The GP39V was rebuilt by VMV Paducahbilt from a GP35.

The scotchlite on the Dash-9s shows up really well in the last few minutes of the setting sun! BNSF has a lot of paint schemes these days, and it's almost nice to see a set of three units wearing one scheme!

After picking up the empty hoppers from the siding at Boulder and the siding at Stazio, the southbound Valmont coal empty passes through Louisville and is about to pass underneath 95th Street. Longs Peak stands tall in the background, above the lead unit.

Just coming out from underneath the 96th Street Overpass, A single C44-9W brings up the tail end of the BWWCHE-28 as it moves slowly north through downtown Louisville. This is just about the only northbound that sees DPU on the Front Range Sub.

I'm not sure exactly when the lease will expire on the Oakways SD60s that are on BNSF's roster, but I would expect them to disappear in the next few years. The "Oakways" came onto BN's property in 1987, numbered as EMD 9000 to EMD 9099. Today, all things considered, their paint still looks pretty darn good! Take, for example, EMDX 9050 here on the BWWCHE-28.

On the approach to Louisville, there is some colorful power on the BWWCHE-28. The train is led by an H2 SD70MAC, followed by an Oakway SD60, and a warbonnet C44-9W.
