There is a nine mile stretch of track between Soldier Summit and Gilluly in which there are no sidings and no crossovers. Similarly to Big Ten Curve in Colorado, the loops around Gilluly mean that, at some point, any train is going to be in fantastic light, even if for a short period of time. Similar to Big Ten, there are spots near Gilluly where you can see both the head end and tail end of the same train in the frame. The tracks, however, have to take a far less direct route, The rails follow some very clever engineering of loops to decrease the grade of the track, and it is roughly nine rail miles from Soldier Summit to the middle of Gilluly. Here, BNSF's Valmy coal load is descending the grade on Main 1. Far down below, above the power, you can see the bridge where US-6 crosses the track in the middle of Gilluly.
