A UP SUV sits alongside DRGW 3006 at the north end of Burnham. If only the old GP30 were still capable of firing up its prime mover! Still, it was just amazing to see it moving.

A UP crew watches closely as DRGW 3006 (and three UP GP40-2s) back slowly to make a join with a very old flat car. It would take two try to get the couplers to actually couple.

The GP30 is one of my favorite all-time engines. I was lucky enough to get a few shots of DRGW 3006 working on the South Local in the summer of 1997, shortly before it was retired. After it was retired, it was placed in Burnham. And there it sat for two decades until this day in February 2018.

A roster shot of DRGW 3006 as seen from the rear quarter. The unit is headed for the Forney Museum for preservation! But first, two other pieces of equipment must be picked up from the storage track at Burnham.

The engineers side of DRGW 3006 has faired a bit better than the conductors side. Not really any graffiti on this side of the GP30. Right now, the train is backing down to pull a DRGW caboose and a DRGW crane (formerly a D&SL crane) out of the storage track at Burnham.

After being pulled out of its old resting place, a UP crew moves DRGW 3006 north on the Old Main on the east side of Burnham. Some of the skyline seemed appropriate for the old GP30.

After 20 years of sitting in the exact same spot in Burnham Yard, DRGW 3006 rolls once again! With the closing of Burnham in February 2016, some old DRGW equipment (including 3006) is all that remains in Burnham. DRGW 3006 is headed for a "forever home" at the Forney Museum.

DRGW 3006 has sat in this spot in Burnham Yard for 20 years! It was spotted here after being retired in 1998 and here it has sat ever since. But now, after two decades, the time has come for it to be moved...

With the air test on DRGW 3006 completed and the brakes properly released, the conductor on the ground gives hand signals to the engineer to go ahead and pull to the south.

A lot of the yard tracks at Burnham have been removed as of the beginning of June 2016. UP has shut down the shops and will most likely sell the land to a developer. Soon, this view will likely be filled with condos! To see the progress crews are making, compare this picture to one I took in February, one week prior to the shops being closed.

The crew working to rip up and remove the yard tracks from Burnham have done a very effective job! Little evidence that there were once tracks here remain as a dirt field is all that is visible now.

A few months ago, this shot was filled with empty yard tracks at Burnham Yard. A few months before that and you would have found lots of power stored on (or waiting for maintenance on) those tracks. Now, the tracks have been removed with the closing of Burnham Yard. Ties from the yard tracks are piling up, waiting to be hauled away.

The Burnham Shops were built in the 1870s and, when it was at its peak, the shops included a foundry and a blacksmith and the shops could build new railcars from the ground up. When the City of Denver wanted to build the 8th Avenue overpass, the main shops were smack in the middle of where 8th Avenue would run. So, the city built the overpass with a bend in it and it went around the south end of the building. Here is said building (Building #14) with the overpass in front of it. After (roughly) 140 years, Burnham Shops shut down on Valentine's Day, 2016.

A huge pile of tie plates sits in an open dirt field at Burnham. The tie plates used to lie underneath the rails of the "coach yard" on the west side of Burnham. Now, only a single track remain intact...and that track has DRGW 3006 - in additional to other equipment - currently resting on it.
