On a windy September morning, UP 4014 leads a 10-car passenger train west on Main 3 between Tie Siding and Laramie. Between Tie Siding and Laramie, Mains 1 and 2 follow a very different grade from Main 3. Main 3 has a steeper grade, so it is generally not used by heavier trains.

The train is about to pass underneath Clark Street not far north of the Laramie Depot. The train is heading west on Main 1, and will remain on Main 1 all the way to Rawlins, about 120 miles further down the tracks.

After a stop in Laramie to lube up the gears, UP 844 and crew are ready to head west. Quite a show is put on for spectators as the brakes are released and the train steams up (quite literally) to depart. Note the crowd of people gathered to witness the event.
