Power from the HPASSAG heads north by Church Ranch Lake, leaving the Valmont coal load behind after helping the train up Westminster Hill. The power will clear up on the main at Broomfield, allowing the coal train to get a warrant into the siding at Broomfield.

The Valmont coal load stalled out on Westminster Hill. To lend a helping hand, the power from the HPASSAG (Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX) cut away from its train and is heading south here around Church Ranch Lake.

With instructions to clear the main track on the siding at Broomfield, this QDENTAC is only moving along at 10 MPH. The switch at the sound end of Broomfield must be aligned for the siding, so the conductor will have to get out. The DENTAC usually consists entirely of COFC (Containers on Flat Car), but on this day, a few cars carrying concrete ties were found on the front of the train.

A quick "grab" shot of a snoot-nose BNSF SD40-2. The unit behind the Dash 2 is EMDX 9099. This was the last of 100 SD60s leased to BNSF through Oakway Leasing. A beautiful fall morning in Colorado near Church Ranch Road and US-36.

With the mountains in the distance, a northbound BNSF manifest passes Church Ranch Lake led by three Warbonnets. Two of the three were originally lettered for BNSF, the third was originally lettered for Santa Fe (which has since, of course, been patched).

Thanks to a friend, I got a good heads up that BNSF's HDENLAU was being led by three Warbonnets! Up front was an SD75I followed by a C40-8W and a C44-9W. I caught the train coming around Church Ranch Lake, about to pass underneath US-36.
