After a night and early morning of snow and sleet, the clouds are now breaking up and making way for the morning sun to shine through. This northbound PRB coal empty (reroute) passes some shards of asphalt discarded as part of the construction going on in the area. The Flatirons Mall, built within the last five years or so, is just visible in the distance.

Dark skies make for a nice backdrop as this northbound Powder River Basin coal empty (rerouted up the Front Range Sub) approaches the north end of the now-severed Brainard Drive. With the new development in the area, the grade crossing that use to exist to my right has been ripped out and Brainard now comes to a dead end here at the tracks.

A Track Geometry train with track measurement cars BNSF 81 and Rio Grande River (BNSF 80) rounds the curve north (geographically west) of Broomfield. The south end of the (relatively new) Northwest Parkway can be seen in the distance.

Less than two years ago, the giant pile of condos in the background were even a splinter in the ground! Today there is quite a bit of expansion north of US-36 near the Flatiron Crossing Mall. Meanwhile, a BNSF Track Geometry train heads sound on the Front Range Sub.

This northbound HDENLAU just received a warrant from the Front Range Dispatcher to proceed from the south siding switch at Broomfield to the north siding switch at North Yard. That warrant spans about 65 miles! Two H2's and a "Catfish" lead the train just north (geographically west) of Broomfield.

A quick roster shot of BNSF 342, a GP60B. The GP60B was the last B-Unit (cabless unit) that, to date, EMD has produced. There are only 23 of these units on BNSF's roster (as of this photo), and how long they will last is anyone's guess!

This is a scene that would have looked completely different just 10 years ago. This area has been growing and growing...the Dillard's in the distance is one of the anchor stores on the (relatively new) Flatirons Crossing Mall. The the right of the picture is a brand new "ant hill", just waiting for new residents. Meanwhile, the HDENLAU-27 starts its climb up the hill toward Louisville and points north.

The Flatirons make for a nice backdrop as the HLAUDEN-25 passes by a field. The horse pays no attention to the noise of the passing freight.

Just a few miles north of Broomfield, the southbound HLAUDEN-25 comes out from underneath the relatively new tollway, the Northwest Parkway. The train is 6,900 feet long and has two units on the point and two units pushing on the rear.

We've all heard of NIMBY's, an acronym for Not In My Back Yard. You just know that people moving into this new development will be complaining about those darn trains soon. I think I'm going to become a NATROW - Not Along The Right Of Way. 30 months ago, there wasn't a sign of development here and it was a GREAT S-Curve to shoot. Oh well, progress.....
