The southbound HPASSAG-24 holds the main track at Broomfield while waiting for the HDENLAU-27 to come out of Denver to meet it. The PASSAG (Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX) manifest is holding the main rather than the siding because there is another southbound coming out of Boulder, so there will be a three-way meet at Broomfield and the HDENLAU will hold the siding for both southbounds.

Not too hard to guess where this train is stopped, is it? Milepost 16 on the Front Range Subdivision is about a half mile north of Broomfield, and right at Brainard Drive. The HLAUDEN-25 is stopped short of the grade crossing until they can get a warrant down in between switches at Broomfield. Longs Peak stands tall in the morning light in the background (to the right).

After meeting the HDENLAU-27 at Broomfield, the HPASSAG-24 got a warrant from the north siding switch at Broomfield to the restricted limits at Clear Creek. With the switch at the south end of Broomfield restored to normal position, the train is picking up speed now as it heads towards town. A gibbous moon looks down on the train as it approaches 112th Avenue.

The HDENLAU-27 has an interesting consist of power on this particular morning. Following the two (rather typical) C44-9Ws, the train has a GP60B (one of only 23 on BNSF's roster at the time), a green and white SD40-2, and a B40-8 (one of only 38 on BNSF's roster at the time). The train is waiting for a warrant from the Front Range Dispatcher to continue north toward Cheyenne.

This is a scene that would have looked completely different just 10 years ago. This area has been growing and growing...the Dillard's in the distance is one of the anchor stores on the (relatively new) Flatirons Crossing Mall. The the right of the picture is a brand new "ant hill", just waiting for new residents. Meanwhile, the HDENLAU-27 starts its climb up the hill toward Louisville and points north.
