The tracks of the Overland Route skirt the rocks of Lower Pine Ridge, providing a great backdrop for UP 4014 and train. Afternoon clouds are starting to move in, nice as "fluffy" now, but thunderstorms will roll through later in the day.

There's a lot of straight stretches of track on UP's Overland in Wyoming, but there are also several areas that are quite scenic. One such spot is Rock River. UP 4014 is coming around the curve in front of the rocky ridge on Main 1.

The clouds have moved in and light rain is starting to fall as UP 4014 passed the S-Curves east of Rock River. The clouds are actually quite helpful, as this shot is taken from the north side of the rails. On a sunny day, this side of the train would be cast is shadows. The temperature is a fairly mild 50°F.

There are some fantastic S-Curves just east of Rock River, WY. Other than a pair of wires that annoying traverse the scene, the shot of UP 4014 heading west is a mighty fine one as steam leaks away from the from the Big Boy.
