The West Local is approaching this control point...which one? Well, CP DS007! The West Local is approaching a diverging approach signal, meaning it will take Main 2 and head east to C&S Junction.

The West Local diverges and moves from the Main track to Main 2 at Arvada. The local has half a dozen covered hoppers in tow. The local is meeting a westbound BNSF manifest that is currently sitting on Main 1.

This was, for me, the "money shot" of the day. I got a heads up from a friend that BNSF's Denver to Provo manifest would be running west with a CREX-leased ES44AC on the point! These leasors showed up on BNSF in 2014 when the railroad was experiencing a power shortage. The train just met the West Local at CP DS007 and is now headed west toward Leyden where it will meet its counterpart and the eastbound California Zephyr.

After meeting is westbound counterpart at Leyden, BNSF's Provo to Denver heads east on the approach to the Simms Street grade crossing. The train will take Main 2 at CP DS007 and wait on Main 2 between Arvada and C&S Junction for the eastbound California Zephyr to pass it on Main 1. This is the first BNSF train I've seen in awhile that had an all-Heritage 2 consist!

Afternoon clouds are moving in and blocking the sun as the eastbound California Zephyr departs the siding at Leyden eastbound. A westbound BNSF manifest was holding the main at Leyden, forcing the Zephyr to run through the siding. The train is running close to on time and hopefully its stop in Denver will not change that.
