If you are a fan of corn on the cob, there is a chance that the last corn you ate came from Colorado! This westbound Q-Train is passing by a corn field in between Brush, CO and Fort Morgan, CO.

Hard to believe that the GE "Evolution Series" engine (in all its various forms) has been around for nearly 15 years now. And man has it proven to be a popular model! GE has produced of 4,000 units just for BNSF and UP alone! More than 7,000 units have been produced for all North American railroads combined. Here, an ES44C4 leads a westbound Q-Train in between Brush and Fort Morgan.

Evidence of some of the maintenance that BNSF has sunk in to the Brush Sub is visible lying alongside the right-of-way in this shot. Piles of old wood ties and tie plates are waiting to be picked up by a scrap train at Wiggins.

This particular Q-Train that BNSF runs on the Brush Sub is something of a "potpourri" train. The makeup of the train is one of the more interesting ones I've seen. Box cars, covered hoppers, open hoppers, tank cars, centerbeam flats, TOFCs, and COFCs...all found on the same train! Most of the time, intermodal is kept separate from other manifest traffic. Not the case on this Alliance, TX-bound train.

On this first day of fall, the further west I travelled back toward Denver, the thicker the cloud coverage got. When I setup for this shot, the scene was bathed in great lightning. Alas, a cloud blew in and added shade to the scene a mere 30 seconds prior to the arrival of the train! Ah well...the curve at Keensburg still looks mighty fine, even in the shade.

The Brush Sub dispatcher has done a great job keeping this Q-Train running on clear signals ever since leaving New Hillrose, north of Brush. Here, the three GE units on the head end knock down the signal at West Tonville. The west switch is located nearly a small pond that helps to offer a nice foreground.
